The Contemporary Club of Ho-Ho-Kus, Inc. is governed by the 11th District of the New Jersey Federation of Women’s Clubs. The NJFWC is the largest and oldest nondenominational, nonpartisan, volunteer service organization for women in the state. The yearly goals of the Contemporary Club include various social and fundraising activities. Our annual Youth Activities Council (YAC) Community Dinner Dance and Auction is our largest fundraiser. The Club members volunteer for Meals-On-Wheels, help to sponsor a local family in need through monthly donations and fund a local student with a college scholarship.

The YAC Halloween Parade and Easter Egg Hunt, co-sponsored by the Contemporary Club, are longstanding traditions in town. We founded Richards’ Run HHK5K which continues to be a tremendous community fundraising event.

Beyond raising funds for noteworthy causes for nearly 80 years, the Contemporary Club provides a viable means to meet new people in our community through our social events. Among the many events are the September Garden Party to welcome a new year and prospective members, the Holiday Party, Breakfast with Santa, Game Night, Progressive Dinner & our New Member Wine & Cheese. Members can also participate in a variety of cultural activities including book group, craft nights and various other local outings. Every year, members have an opportunity to share their talents at Achievement Day during the Spring Conference sponsored by the NJFWC by entering in a variety of creative categories.

The Contemporary Club publishes an annual yearbook and a monthly e-newsletter featured on our club website. Meetings are held the first Monday of the month, September through June, at 7:30 pm at The Hermitage and various offsite locations. A special Program is often presented following the business portion of the meeting. Meetings for the Board of Trustees are held once a month in members’ homes.

All members in good standing adhere to the following regulations: either serve on the Board of Trustees, serve on one special committee, or assist in a Club Project during the year; participate willingly and actively in all Club fundraising projects; and attend the minimum of four general Club meetings during the Club year. New members require a one-time initiation fee. Membership fees are due annually in May.
